How to Use It
- Click the left, right, and middle buttons, then the two side buttons, inside the gray area.
- Click the left button 20 or 30 times at a normal pace. Any fault shows in red with its timing.
- Scroll one step at a time, down and then up, and watch the Skips counter.
What the Results Mean
Faults
A fault is a second press that came faster than the threshold after the button was released. A deliberate double click usually leaves 80 ms or more between releasing and pressing again; a bouncing switch does it in under 30 ms. If one button collects faults and the others don't, that switch is failing.
Skips
A skip is one scroll step in the opposite direction in the middle of a scroll. Worn wheels do this because the encoder under the wheel loses contact. One skip in a hundred steps is noticeable in documents and games.
To measure how often your mouse reports its position, use the polling rate test.
